What are you passionate about? On GA Gives Day, consider how you can support an organization that feeds your passion.
Early on in my first job that involved serious fundraising, a mentor urged me to "create opportunities for people to give ‘till … it feels good!"
Thursday, November 12, is that kind of opportunity: Georgia Gives Day (https://gagivesday.org). While the day's focus is on encouraging people to make charitable contributions to support the work of their favorite non-profit organization, each of us — regardless of our financial status — can find a way to give something important back to our community.
What are you passionate about — kids? education? sports? arts? politics? faith? animals? food?
Give a little time. Passionate about kids and education? Volunteer at your neighborhood elementary school. Offer to read a book aloud to kids in the school library or to be an assistant coach for your favorite sport. Volunteer at your local animal shelter: they need people to walk dogs, play with cats, give baths, etc.
Lend some expertise. Good at social media? A local non-profit — in the arts or health care, for example — could benefit from your knowledge. Help them communicate the importance of what they do with the wider world. A whiz with finance? Offer to help a local organization make the most of its dollars.
C'mon, give 'em some money. Most non-profit organizations operate on shoestring budgets and are expert at creating great results with far too few resources. The $10 or $20 or $100 (or more) that you share with them can make a real and lasting difference. On Thursday, GA Gives Day, take the money you would spend on morning coffee, lunch out with friends, and/or that end-of-day drink at the local bar and give it to your favorite local non-profit. And don't stop there:
Give ‘till … it feels good!
